/ovg/ Jokkis is this 2024 summer's /ovg/ series, bringing back based rFactor 1 and racing based finnish grown mods (no, not Tunari's, good mods) in a loose approximation of grassroot finnish racing

You can join by slapping your name in the associated sheet here

Why this antiquated game?

It's fun and the finns made their mod for it so it must be the best jokkis representation.

"I can't play not in VR"

If your simrig is the cuck chair with the monitor too far away, Desktop+ with unlimited capture framerate works well enough.

If it's a choice, consider not being a redditor.

How Do I Join?

You can find the game and mod downloads on the google doc.

Install the lite version of the game by extracting it somewhere.

Install the mod to your rFactor install by extracting the files to the install.

Join the server by going to connect, hitting the green + at the top and typing in the server IP as listed on the doc.

Race Format

Somewhat mirroring real events but composing with the lower entrant count (currently 14), race events will be organised as follows:

- nx 6 player max races until everyone has done 2 races as qualifiers, random grids, top 14 (everyone) qualifies for the semifinals

- 2x 7 player semifinals seeded on qualifier results, top 3 of each race gets to the A final, bottom 3 get to the B final

- 1x 7 player B final deciding positions 8-14

- 1x 7 player A final deciding positions 1-7

All races are 5 laps.

DUE TO THIS FORMAT THE ENTRANT LIST WILL BE LOCKED AT EVENT START

Car purchases

As per IRL jokkis rules, any competitor can buy another competitor's car at the end of the events. When the car is bought, the buyer gets to drive it if they choose to and the seller is forbidden from driving it again and must either use another car they own, submit a new skin, or if they're a lame bitch use a default skin.

Buy requests must be sent over the thread or mattermost within an hour of the final A ending.

If more than one request is made for a car, whoever ends up buying it will be decided over a match of Quake 3 or OpenArena or similar.

Skin Rules

To keep the grassroot theme, skins must keep a simple style consistent with being made in a shed with a couple of hardware store paint cans. You are only allowed ONE medium size sticker design (half a door panel) and a max of two occurences of this sticker (typically both doors). Text must be hand drawn. You do not have to hand draw the whole livery as hardware stores carry painters tape for straight lines.

Skin Creating Information

This is a short guide to get a skin running, don't hesitate to ask for help on mattermost or the thread if something goes wrong.

- Copy a veh from 'GameData\Vehicles\Grasstrack\Class5-7\Class 5 Skins\Mini' or 'GameData\Vehicles\Grasstrack\Class5-7\Class 5 Skins\Mini Pickup' depending on the body you want

- Paste it in 'GameData\Vehicles\Grasstrack\Class5-7\ovg_eJokkis\' and rename it to something like NUMBER_DRIVER.veh

- Get the associated template from the doc, and fuck with it in photoshop, save it as DXT5/BC3 in 'GameData\Vehicles\Grasstrack\Class5-7\ovg_eJokkis\'

- Open the veh file in Notepad, and change the lines:

-- DefaultLivery, to the filename of your DDS

-- Number, to your number

-- Driver, to your name

-- Description, to whatever

- Boot the game to see if the car exists

If this works, send the car via email to the address on the google doc. Deadline is 24h before a race for your skin to be included in the skin pack.
