Welcome to the 4th Gear 1997 Repmobile Challenge! In this event, participants find a pre-existing car, then will will design their own repmobile within automation using the existing car as the limitations. Additionally, participants must provide an image gallery showcasing their finished car for judging. Once participants have finished their cars they will go through a series of challenges in BeamNG multiplayer.
Contents
Eligibility
- Open to all participants who are able to read and put their name in the doc.
- Submit your Google Doc and Automation file by 20th of January 2025.
- Submit your cars .car file and beam .zip if you have modified it (along with a description of what has been changed).
- While completing exclusively in either just the Automation or Beam.ng challenge is not recommended, it is allowed.
Car Hunt
- Go on any website and find a car that was in production in 1997 with an appropriate displacement and put it on the sheet
- Car selected must be within the size segment and displacement limit.
- Additional displacement limit for quality of tyre allowed on your car.
- Anything marketed as a 'sporty' trim must be to the next lowest size bracket.
- The 'Wagie' and 'Sr. Executive' brackets are only for automation-only submissions or 'sales rep' with a sporty car. (see rule above)
- While there is no absolute rule for which segment you choose, I ask anyone who generally goes on the top of a score board go for a smaller segment. Plus smaller segments will be scored more leniently.
Automation Challenge
Rules and Specifications
- Automation will be judged using the Al Rilma update. If Al Rilma gets fully released, the deadline will get extended.
- Depending on the car decided: cylinder count, wheelbase (to the nearest 0.1m), top speed (if known) and drivetrain should be same. Weight should be equal or greater. Anything else should be equal to, or of lesser quality.
- This basis car is only to provide limits on your design. How similar or dissimilar the design will have no weighting on the scores. (outside of looking like a clone)
- No overly stressed components (over 12%)/Fix warnings
- 5 quality points either way
- unleaded fuels only.
- No strictly race dependent parts - Automation does quite clearly define race and non-race parts in-game.
- Car must have a tow bar added - It wont be held against you if you make it invisible for styling purposes.
Image Gallery
- Participants must provide an image gallery showcasing their chosen car.
- Both Automation and Beam.NG provide photography tools
- The gallery should contain a minimum of 5 high-quality images.
Submission Deadline
- All submissions must be completed and uploaded by 20th of January 2025.
- This deadline will be extended by a week if an update releases soon before the event.
Judging Criteria
- Submissions will be judged based on the attention to detail and styling of the car in Automation
- It shall also be measured by desirable qualities in a repmobile, being sensibility, practicality, economy (especially for fuel economy and grade), drivability and knobheadedness
- Additionally, there is a 'advertising challenge' where you will make an alternative design to promote 4chan, WAT or OVG. Bonus points for effort and uniqueness.
- Submissions will also be judged on their performance in given challenges in BeamNG
BeamNG Challenge
- Participate in the BeamNG online challenge and compete against others on 25th of January 2025.
- This challenge will be done using the latest verion of Beam.NG and Beam MP.
- Challenges will be announced on the day.
Uploading a BeamNG .zip file
- If you have modified the .zip file, please upload that along with the .car file.
- Visual and audio modifications are allowed.
- Anything that changes the performance, driving characteristics or gives an unfair advantage is not allowed.
- Any changes must be mentioned in the doc.
