Automobilista 2 is a racing simulator game created by Reiza Studios, under the lead of Renato Simioni.[1] The game was initially released as an Early Access title on March 31st 2020 via Steam, with the official V1.0 release taking place on June 30th 2020. Automobilista 2 features a wide variety of cars and tracks. Its main focus is on Brazilian content, which includes licensed Brazilian racing series, such as Stock Car Brazil and Copa Truck. There is also an emphasis on Grand Prix racing cars of many different eras, featuring both licensed and generic vehicles. There are also other modern racing classes, such as GT3.[2] Automobilista 2 supports VR and triple screen setups.
Automobilista 2 has received favourable reviews from critics.[3]

Development
Automobilista 2 is built on the MADNESS engine, which also was the foundation of the Project C.A.R.S. series by Slightly Mad Studios. Automobilista 2 inherited the Seta tyre model, which is a physical tyre model. The Seta tyre model simulates the carcass, the tread and the heat of the tyre, which allows for a wide variety of tyres to be simulated with realistic handling properties.[4] Automobilista 2 also features Livetrack 3.0, which allows for dynamic rubbering in and heating/cooling effects of the race track's surface, and allows for simulation of rain and puddles.
The developers of Automobilista 2 have committed to a long-term development plan, and will bring continuous improvements to the game with the addition of new game modes, features and content. Automobilista 2 includes improvements over Project CARS 2 in terms of vehicle physics, force feedback, audio and the implementation of Livetrack 3.0. One notable feature is that of historic and live weather implementation. Automobilista 2 allows players to select any date and time between the present and 1971, and the game will automatically include the weather, the temperature wind and other climatic conditions as it was at the time. These conditions can affect the vehicle handling in a realistic way.[5] The trackside foilage will also adjust, depending on time of year chosen.

Features
Live Track 3.0
Uses a fully dynamic weather system and how it evolves during a race; rubber build-up, puddles on the track, dry lines, drag and splash water. Also the day, night, rain, clouds and many more can affect the track and the cars.
Real weather / Historic weather
The game pings current and historic weather data from Openweathermap. Players can select every date from 1971 and onwards. It also simulates current date and a one week weather forecast.
Multiplayer system
Is a license system consisting of a safety- and a skill rating. The safety racing go from F, E, D, C, B, A, to S. The rating is affected by contact with opponents, losing control of the car, exceeding track limits, etc. The skill rating goes from 100 to 5000, and it affected by length of the race, the grid, and the other drivers skill ratings.
Force Feedback
Features a FFB system very similar to the RealFeel system used in its predecessor AMS1. In both sims all FFB output to the player are composed of forces acting on the steering arms, translated over to the steering rack, which are dynamically affected by the ever-changing conditions while driving.
Artificial intelligence
Has strength and agression sliders. Also the AI has awareness; it knows where and when to overtake or not, when it rains and the track is covered in puddles, and many more. The player can also use the AI in a multi-class race.
Seasonal foilage
The player can select dates, which consists of seasons; autumn, spring, summer and winter. The foilage will change accordely to the correct season. Currently snow isn't supported and will render as rain or wet.
Championship editor
When selecting a championship the player can customize it to their own preferences
Customizable dates
The player can select every date and simulate historic races or current races.
Livery customization
The user can override current liveries with its own handmade liveries.
Reception
It has received generally favourable reviews with a 8.2 score on Metacritic, and a 89% score on Steam, and while it was received positively for some of its strong points with respect to other racing sims it was also criticized for issues that made the driving experience not entirely convincing. Several of those physics issues were fixed in November 2021 with the release of version 1.3, which in particular addressed the behavior issues by fixing the differential simulation and the finding of an error in the tire model.
